Large Grinding Media
Epworth Mill supplies large grinding media (greater than 4 mm or 3/16" in diameter) ranging from alumina ceramic to hi-chrome steel for non-ferrous and ferrous applications.
Rules for Selecting
- Rule 1: The media must not "float" in the product. Viscosity and density action must not be impaired.
- Rule 2: The media specific gravity MUST NOT be greater than that of the mill liner UNLESS the liner is elastomeric (example: rubber or urethane).
- Rule 3: The media must not destroy the product value through color change, abrasive contamination or chemical reaction.
- Rule 4: The media should promote highest thru-put per unit of time. Small is desirable if Rule 1 is met.
NOTE: Static electrical charges will develop in all non-ferrous medias. Fire or explosion hazard may exist.
Types of Media
Non-Ferrous
- Flint Pebbles
- Porcelain
- Alumina Ceramic
- Zirconia
Ferrous
- Hot Forged Steel
- Cold Headed Steel
- Chrome Steel
- Ni-Hard/Hi-chrome Steel
